Arrangements for Severe Weather Conditions

We will stay open if at all possible when there is severe weather such as deep snow.

Parents and Carers have the responsibility of getting children to and from school and need to decide if the journey is safe when severe weather affects transport and/or walking conditions.

Parents and Carers should inform school if their child is absent due to severe weather conditions making the journey unsafe. Please consider carefully and only keep children at home if conditions are unsafe.

We will try our very best to remain open during snowfall. The main reasons we would close would be:

  • Safety around the site or building
  • Lack of water/heating
  • Closure of the school kitchen
  • The majority of staff being physically unable to get to school to make it safe for the children to be supervised during the day.

If on the rare occasion school closes at a time within the day, you will be informed by text message (it's helpful to ensure the office has your correct details).

On occasions, when we need to close a message will go out on Local Radio. (BBC Radio Berkshire, Heart FM & Reading 107 FM)

Please avoid collecting children before the end of the day unless you feel their safety is at risk.

On occasions, school meal services may be affected by weather conditions and so pupils will be asked to bring a packed lunch.

Please ensure that your child is appropriately dressed for cold, wet and windy weather and that shoes/boots have a good grip for icy conditions.

If you can spare the time we would be more than grateful for volunteers to help us clear paths and snow.
