Breakfast Club

15th July 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

Breakfast Club Provision from September 2026

I am writing to inform you of a difficult decision made by the school and Governing Board regarding our Breakfast Club provision.

After careful consideration, we have taken the decision to close the school's Breakfast Club at the end of the Summer Term. Unfortunately, this means that there will be no Breakfast Club provision at the school from September 2026.

This decision has not been made lightly. Despite our best efforts to maintain the service, the club has been operating at a significant financial loss for some time. This shortfall has been covered through government funding for wraparound childcare provision. However, this grant funding is now coming to an end. As a result, any ongoing losses would need to be met from the school's budget.

As many of you will be aware, the school is already operating within a significant budget deficit, and we are therefore unable to continue subsidising the costs of running the club. Given our current financial position, continuing the provision would not be financially responsible.

The Government has announced plans to roll out a national programme of free breakfast clubs in the future, and we are hopeful that we will be able to participate in this scheme when it becomes available. Should this opportunity arise, we will be delighted to explore reopening a breakfast provision for our pupils.

We recognise that this decision may cause inconvenience for some families, and we are sincerely sorry for the impact it may have.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Breakfast Club staff for their commitment and dedication. They have provided a warm and welcoming start to the school day and have continued to run the club each morning with enthusiasm and care, for our one regular attendee.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs. Pengelly (Head Teacher)

Purpose & Structure

The aim of Coley Breakfast Club is to provide a nutritious start to the day, supporting working parents and encouraging good attendance. It is available for children from Reception to Year 6, please note places are dependent on staff ratios and age of children attending.

Breakfast Club is available Monday- Friday in term time only from 8am - 8.45am and is located in the school canteen. Children must be registered with Breakfast Club staff by 8.15am, we are unable to take late comers.

Staffing & Ratios

Places are available based on the age of the children wishing to attend, as we have to consider the adult to child ratios that are compulsory. Therefore, as we establish our Breakfast Club, places may be limited in the first instance, but we intend to review this regularly.

Food & Nutrition

The Breakfast Club will provide a healthy breakfast option. This will include cereals, toast, fruit, milk and water. Allergies and dietary requirements will be considered e.g. vegetarian, nut-free.

 Price and booking

Each session costs £6 and must be booked a week in advanced. You can book your child’s place on our Arbor App. Please note, we are not able to admit children who have not booked or paid for a session in advance.

Unfortunately, cancelled places will still incur a cost and no refund will be available. Cancellation should be no later than 24hrs notice. (Any refunds will be at the Head Teacher’s discretion in exceptional circumstances only)
