At the end of the Reception year, teachers use the Early Learning Goals (ELGs) to assess each child’s development. There are 17 goals across different areas of learning, and they help the teacher decide whether a child has reached a Good Level of Development (GLD).
It’s important to note that the ELGs are not the curriculum—they are simply the end-of-year assessment points. Throughout the year, your child will follow the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) curriculum, which is broad and designed to support their learning and development in a range of ways.
