Music at Coley Primary School
Music is a powerful, unique form of communication that can change the way children feel, think and act. It brings together intellect and feeling and enables personal expression, reflection and emotional development. Music promotes children’s spiritual, cultural and social development which we promote actively at Coley Primary School.
Learning and Performing Music
As well as Music lessons in class, whole school singing sessions take place weekly. In addition, pupils are given the opportunity to listen to a range of Music at the beginning and end of our school assemblies. Key Stage One perform a yearly Christmas Play which includes singing. Other year groups get their chance to shine in end of term church assemblies which allow classes to showcase their music learning.
Coley really is becoming a 'Singing School' we have a singing assembly every week where we get together as a whole school (reception to year six) and sing together. Usually, we choose songs from 'Words on Screen', but sometimes we sing chart songs too. We make up actions and to ensure every one can join in. This year we have also begun to sing songs with different parts, harmonies and rounds! Visitors and parents have noticed a real improvement in our voices.
As part of our teaching and learning of the music curriculum, we are using ‘Music Express’ throughout the school. This serves as a base to aid and enhance our teaching. Teachers choose when to use this and when to use their own ideas to link to our other curriculum areas. If you want to know more about 'Music Express', here is a link: https://www.musicexpress.co.uk/
