Music

Music at Coley Primary School

Music is a powerful, unique form of communication that can change the way children feel, think and act. It brings together intellect and feeling and enables personal expression, reflection and emotional development. Music promotes children’s spiritual, cultural and social development which we promote actively at Coley Primary School.

Learning and Performing Music

As well as Music lessons in class, whole school singing sessions take place weekly. In addition, pupils are given the opportunity to listen to a range of Music at the beginning and end of our school assemblies.  Over the year the children perform for special occasions such as Harvest Festival, Christmas and Easter, all of which include singing, these special times of year allow the children across the school to have a time to shine and perform to others.

Singing

Coley really is becoming a 'Singing School' we have a singing assembly every week where we get together as a whole school (Reception to Year six) and sing together. We sing a range of songs over the year, featuring some quite simple to others which include harmonies that help challenge our KS2 pupils. To help everyone join in, we use some signed video resources from Sing Up! which are signed in British Sign Language, as well as using actions for other songs.

Teaching Music

Our music curriculum is planned using ‘Music Express’ throughout the school. This helps us to ensure that we build our musical knowledge and skills as we progress through the school.  If you want to know more about 'Music Express', here is a link: https://www.musicexpress.co.uk/
